Our Mission
To preserve the memory and legacy of Dr. King’s work and ideals. The Society is committed to embracing his dream through remembrance, reflection, and recommitment, while promoting ongoing interracial, interfaith, and intercultural programs that reflect his mission, prayers, and vision. With a steadfast focus on nonviolence and a nonpolitical approach, the Society emphasizes unity, justice, and love in all its initiatives.
Sobre nosotros
La Sociedad de Conmemoración Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. ha brindado programación directa, desarrollo de liderazgo, participación cívica y oportunidades de expresión artística para más de 20,000 niños y niñas en toda la ciudad de Tulsa, el condado de Tulsa y las áreas circundantes desde que se fundó en 1978. La Sociedad ha otorgado $ 102,000 en becas durante las últimas tres décadas a graduados de escuelas secundarias locales que aspiran a lograr el sueño del Dr. King.
Anualmente, miles de personas asisten al desfile que ahora se alinea en la esquina de N. Detroit Ave. y John Hope Franklin Blvd. y serpentea por la histórica Greenwood Avenue hasta Archer.

WHAT WE DO
MLK DAY PARADE
The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Society hosts the third-largest annual MLK Day Parade in honor of Dr. King’s legacy. Participants of all ages are welcome to join in the historic Greenwood District, where educational activities and community events are held to inspire the next generations with Dr. King's dream.
COMMEMORATION SERVICE
In addition to the parade, the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Society hosts an annual Commemoration Service, where music, inspiring speeches, and a student-led recitation of Dr. King’s "I Have a Dream" speech offer moments of reflection and celebration. The Walk in Peace invites the community to participate in a march reminiscent of Dr. King’s peaceful demonstrations, promoting unity and reflection.
SCHOLARSHIPS
Scholarships are awarded annually to deserving students who best exemplify Dr. King’s legacy through their applications, furthering his dream by supporting educational opportunities. The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Commemoration Society also presents “The Keeping the Dream Alive Award” each year to recognize individuals who embody the principles of justice, love and equality championed by Dr. King.
